Make a statement in the virtual world: Here’s a step-by-step beginner-friendly guide to create a 3D avatar of yourself and give it the slickest moves or any other animations that can be experienced in AR and VR.

What are avatars useful for?

Lawyered!

With the trend of avatars on the rise, it's easier than ever to do just that! In recent years, a variety of apps have been popping up, giving users the ability to create their own virtual "Me." But, you might be wondering, what exactly can you do with an avatar? Well, the possibilities are endless!

You can use your avatar to represent yourself online, make new virtual friends, promote a brand, or even become an influencer. But, the best part about avatars is the sense of satisfaction you get from seeing yourself "pull off some slick moves" in the virtual world. It's strangely satisfying, isn't it?

Let’s begin with the basics:

Step 1: How to create your avatar?

We are going to use in3D that offers an app and SDK for 3D body scanning. The app has an user-friendly interface that makes it easy to capture a detailed scan of your body, with a simple process of standing in front of your device's camera and moving around for a few seconds.

Follow the instructions below:

Export the model in FBX format

Step 2: How to add animation to the avatar?

You can add animations to 3D characters in 3 simple steps through Maximo (free Adobe application).

  1. Import the model (FBX format) in Mixamo.
  2. Choose from 100s of pre-rigged animations.
  3. And download - FBX (binary).

Step 3: Convert FBX to GLB (we are working to support FBX directly

1. Open Blender.

2. Import FBX.

3. Export GLB.

4. Save.

Note - Do not do anything else 🙂(Blender is soo powerful, it intimidates us novices.)

Step 4: Drag GLB into Fabrik, into the author.

  1. Create an immersive experience.
  2. Drag the GLB into the authoring tool.
  3. Add animations.
  4. Add 3D text.
  5. Save and view the URL on your phone.

Note:

  1. Fabrik - AR works on Android smartphones and tablets. AR on iPhones are beta at the moment, reach out to us and we are happy to enable that for you.
  2. Mixamo - there are hundreds of pre-rigged animations to choose from, use search and browse.
  3. in3D Pro - the full body scan has voice instructions, make sure your speaker volume is high enough that you can hear it from a little distance.

With the right tools and some creativity, the possibilities are truly endless. Let your avatar make a statement in the virtual world today!
